Our next talk will be on Thursday 23rd April starting at 2.00pm when David Seddon will talk about 'Shakespeare and being Human'.

An introduction to Shakespeare’s life story, to his unique voice and to the claim that he invented the idea of a ‘character’.

This is an entertaining account of aspects of our greatest entertainer.

The u3a is an international, self-help organisation for people no longer in full time employment providing educational, creative and leisure opportunities in an informal and friendly environment.

The Romiley and District u3a is a Registered Charity ( Number 1119203) and is a member of the Third Age Trust. The Third Age Trust is the governing body of the u3a's in the UK and provides information and help on running a u3a and its own Groups. It also provides on-line talks and courses via Zoom. Further information can be found at https://www.u3a.org.uk.

The North West u3a also provides help and advice and runs Summer Schools and talks for members. Further information can be found at https://northwestregion.u3asite.uk

Our branch was formed in 2000, and our membership is currently around 150. There is a monthly meeting on the fourth Thursday of each month at the Romiley Methodist Church. All members can attend this meeting which involves a presentation by a guest speaker followed by information, and reports on, group activities. We end the afternoon with refreshments.

Each year we collect money for a local charity. In 2025 we collected for the Walthew Centre which is a Stockport charity providing practical and emotional support for people in Stockport living with sight or hearing loss. The photograph shows Pam and Maurice presenting a cheque for £350 to the Walthew Centre representatives.

Three Newsletters are produced each year. The current Newsletter can be found on the latest Newsletter page.

Membership subscription for this year £10.00 for each member. The membership year runs from February to January

Please note that the Monthly Meetings start promptly at 2.00pm. We meet in the Romiley Methodist Church. There is an admission charge of £2 to cover the cost of the refreshments and contribute to the cost of hiring the hall and paying the speaker.

We have numerous interest groups and also combine with other local u3a's to provide additional activities. Groups meet usually in members houses, at the Romiley Methodist Church, or at other meeting venues, and at visit locations. Trips out are by coach, private cars or public transport, whichever is deemed most appropriate.

Each year we support a Charity.

In 2023 we raised £333.54 for the Children's Adventure farm.

In 2024 we supported The Marple Dementia Drop-in Centre and raised £446.

In 2025 we raised £350 the Walthew Centre in Stockport.

In 2026 we are supporting the Rainbow Trust which supports people suffering from Motor Neurone Disease.
